Goodness

This was a weekend filled with Goodness.

As a Christian, Goodness is one of the Fruits of the Spirit....characteristics that are manifested in a Christian's life as they are filled with the Holy Spirit.

This verse is in Romans Chapter 12:
"Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality."

As I experienced the graduation weekend of my daughter Cosette, I saw this manifested in many people throughout the weekend.  From family and friends attending graduation to encourage the graduates, to the graduates themselves encouraging one another, to the KHS faculty and staff being an encouragement as well.

After the graduation ceremony, many family and friends gathered in our home to wish our daughter well, and we saw goodness in many forms.  We saw kindly affection toward one another.  We saw honor giving preference to one another.  We saw people serving the Lord through the love they shared with Cosette and our family.  We know many of the people who came have prayed for Cosette.  Gifts were shared.  Hospitality was given.

Later that evening, parents, volunteers and graduates gathered at the high school for the traditional all night party.  Again, goodness was shared through the love and dedication of parents, community volunteers, and donations from the giving community we live in to provide prizes to give away to the seniors, and well as monetary gifts.

In Luke 6:45, Jesus said, "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good."Goodness was personified in the life of Jesus, and Christians are to imitate Him.

We like good experiences.  We like it when we are surrounded by people who are sharing goodness.  it makes us feel good.  It makes us happy and joyful.

I am very thankful for those who gathered at our home yesterday to share their goodness with, not only Cosette, but with all those who attended.  I am thankful for the parents, students, and community members who made the all night party a big success for all who attended.

As Martha Stewart liked to say, yesterday was "a good thing".
